Five wikis - what’s the connection?

What do the Wikia sites on events, POV editorials, photography, the Polish RPG Wolsung, and the Fallout series of games have in common?

New skins?
There seems to be some irregularity over whether i get the “new default skin” when I log in: on a couple I did, on another I was presented with Monobook.
There doesn’t seem to be a preference item for “whatever the current default is”.

Hi Phil. Good guess, but that’s not it. Wikia does have new skins which are slowly being rolled out to all wikis. You can choose them in your preferences or via a cookie if you’re not logged in. Until the roll-out is complete, different wikis have different defaults and new users might see a different skin to existing users.
A clue is in one of the categories for this blog post.

Has it something to do with interwiki links being possible from/to Wikimedia projects/Wikipedia?

This is too easy. I’ll give the rest of you a hint: Who started them?

Jérôme - no. None of these wikis are specifically in Wikimedia’s interwiki map. Only WikiFur and Wookieepedia are.

Ooh. they were all founded by people who are currently running for the WMF Board. :)

Well done pfctdayelise. :)
The Events wiki was founded by Erik, POV was founded by Danny, Fallout and Wolsung were founded by Ausir, and Photography was founded by Kat. All are candidates for the 2007 election.
